Speed and wash

Speed and Wash
A powerboat in the right hands is great fun. But at dangerous speeds or when making a lot wash it’s a lethal weapon.
Always travel at a safe speed for the conditions and keep a proper lookout.
If you’re traveling at night or if there’s a lot of other boats, slow down.
And don’t forget to look behind and regularly check your wash so you’re not a nuisance or danger to others.

If you’re the skipper, you’re responsible.

Lights

Lights
Boating at night is a whole new experience .
Its not like driving a car which has headlights so you can see where you’ re going ..., in a boat you use lights to show others where you are.
If your lights are n’ t fitted properly … you can’t expect others to see you.
As the skipper you must make sure you have the correct lights, and they’ re working.

You’re the skipper, you’re responsible. Be bright at night.

Proper Lookout

Proper Lookout
Boating is about having fun, relaxing and enjoying our wonderful waterways. But driving a boat requires knowledge and skill and one of the most important jobs is to keep a proper lookout at all times.
Things for everyone on board to look out for include floating debris, hazards like submerged reefs or rocks, other boats especially kayaks and dinghies, and of course swimmers .
And when you’re in a navigation channel, entering a narrow passage, or on a sharp bend make sure that you keep right.
You’re the skipper, you’re responsible and for a good skipper these are good habits. Always look around and keep checking and remember, “right’s right”.
