Lifejacket Penalties
The following penalties could apply for failure to have the correct number of lifejackets on board, or in good condition, or failing to wear them when required:
| Fail to carry an item of essential safety equipment (e.g lifejackets) | $100 (1 item)$250 (> 1 item) |
| Safety equipment expired or in poor condition | $100 (1 item)$250 (> 1 item) |
| Not wear lifejacket when crossing bar (or master to ensure) | $250 |
| Not wear lifejacket on PWC | $250 |
| Not wear lifejacket in other required circumstances | $100 |
Note – If you are found on the water with inflatable lifejackets that have not been serviced subject to requirements, in the first instance, a safety direction will be issued, requiring you to return to shore until you have appropriate lifejackets on board (or worn, if required). Any subsequent offence is likely to result in a penalty notice.
